Health Insurance Billing

The Following Custom Controls under Program Id BI050B, Sequence 3 determine how health insurance is billed:

Parameter 1:  If this Value = Y health insurance billing is turned on

Parameter 2:  This is the Transaction Code that is used for Health Insurance Billing

Parameter 3:  This is the Transaction Code that is used for International Health Insurance Billing. This is based off the International code of the student.

Parameter 4:  This is the code on the students’ session data that indicates Health Insurance is waived

Parameter 6:   If this Value = Y requested health insurance billing is turned on

Parameter 7:  This is the code on the students’ session data that indicates Health Insurance is requested

Parameter 8:   If this Value = Y students can request insurance even if semester credits=0

Parameter 5 and 9 are Deprecated and no longer used.

Insurance Billing Rule

The insurance billing rule requires the Billing Transaction Code matches Custom Control BI050B-3-2

The insurance billing rule must be a type I to properly bill/reverse insurance charges based upon waiving/requesting insurance in session data.

Frequency:  To prevent the billing of insurance in subsequent semesters of the same year, the frequency is set to Annual.    This means that if a student has been billed using the insurance billing code in any semester containing the first 4 digits, they will not be rebilled.    For example, if a student was billed insurance using the HI transaction/billing code in semester 202410, and a rule exists in 202420 for insurance with a HI transaction/billing code in 202430, the student will not be billed again for insurance.

Waiving or Requesting Insurance

The Health Insurance Code in the students’ session data record for the charge semester is used to record the waiving and requesting of insurance.   The code in session data which determines Waiving or Requesting can be customized to values selected by the client.

Waiving is based upon Custom Control BI050B-3-4, which in this example is W

Requesting is based upon Custom Control BI050B-3-7 which in this example is Y

Provided the billing rule is set up properly and is of type insurance, putting a W in the corresponding students’ session data will either reverse the health insurance charged automatically if it’s already been charged, or not charge at all if the student was never billed prior to the waiver being entered on the students’ session data.

Either a blank or a Y in the insurance code will bill insurance for students provided all other filters on the rule are met.    Specifying a Y, allows billing of requested health insurance for students with 0 credits if Custom Control BI050B-3-8 is Y.
