About Prerequisites

Pre or co-requisites force a student to take courses in a specified order. The system will not permit a student to register for a course unless the requisite is met. Institutions can configure via permissions who is bound by these rules.

Prerequisites Behavior

Prerequisites saved in the catalog semester will automatically copy to other semesters. When creating a course in a new semester, prerequisites will be visible once the Save button is clicked on the course page.

Adjusting prerequisites for a course in one semester will not impact prerequisites already established in other semesters.

Prerequisites are shared among all sections of the same course in the same semester. Adjusting a prerequisite for one section of the course will cause that prerequisites to replicate to all other sections of the course in that semester.

Establishing Prerequisites

Prerequisites are set on the Prerequisites tab of the course page. Prerequisites may be any combination of courses, scores and activity tracking templates.

The course must be saved before prerequisites can be built.

Important
For requisites to work, a blank grade, in progress grade must exist on the Quality Points Maintenance screen.

  2. In the Group box enter the 1
  3. In the Prerequisite box enter the course code (e.g. MTH101)
  4. In the Sub Grouping box enter 1

Requiring Multiple Courses

To require the student to have taken multiple classes, add each course using the same Grouping and Sub Grouping number.

To require the student to have taken one or another class, add each course using a different Grouping and Sub Grouping number and check the Group Or box.

Example of multiple prerequisite classes

Assume the course AH221 requires students to take HU101 and HU102 and AH105. Students must also take AH104 or AH110. Students with pre-reqs in progress are eligible to enroll in AH221.

Requiring a Score

Requiring a score means the student must have the specified score or score range to register for a class.

Important
For a score to be used as a pre-req, it must be  indicated as a Prereq Use on the score table.
  1. Set the Type to S: Scores
  2. Set the grouping, sub grouping and logic accordingly
  3. In the Prerequiste drop down choose the Score type (e.g. SAT)

  6. In the Value To enter the maximum score
  7. Click Save Pre Req

Requiring an Activity Tracking Template

Requiring an activity tracking template will check if the student attempting to register has an activity tracking template assigned. The presence of the activity will allow the student to register. The activity must be associated with a workflow marked as Prereq Usage under Options.

  1. Set the Type to D: Tracking
  2. In the Prerequisite box enter the activity tracking template name (The activity tracking item must be associated with a workflow that has Prereq Usage checked.)
  3. Set the grouping, sub grouping and logic accordingly
  4. Optionally, check Ignore Tracking Completed Date. Checking this will allow the student to register even if the activity is not marked as completed.
  5. Optionally set Days Till Expired. This indicates how many days after the activity's completion date the activity will fulfill the pre-req. To ignore the date or no expiration enter 0.
  6. In the Tracking Member box, select the tracking member associated with the specific tracking item
  7. Click Save Pre Req
  8. Click Save

Establishing Corequisites

Corequisties are classes that the student must take simultaneously as the course in which they are attempting to enroll. Campus Cafe supports up to five courses that a student must enroll in during the same semester.

Corequisites are set on the corequisites tab on the course screen.
