Student Hold Maintenance   

Holds prevent a student from undertaking a certain action until the hold is removed. Often referred to as holds or blocks, these restrictions may be placed for academic, financial, or other reasons.

Add Hold to System

Each hold is tied to a category (source). For example, an immunization hold may be tied to the category (source) Health Services. The five categories (sources) delivered with the system may not be changed.

The code is the specific hold. For example, an immunization hold. Code options are added in STParm Maintenance using the parameter code corresponding to the category. The STParm long description shows to students and, as such, may be an ideal place to explain to the student why the hold was placed and how to resolve it.

After making adjustments, run the Refresh Data Cache by navigating to Admin > Refresh Data Cache and clicking reload data to see the change immediately.

Configure Hold Impact

1. Navigate to Registrar > Student Holds
2. In the hold category box, choose a category (source) that aligns with the business process reason for the code
3. In the hold code box, choose a hold (code)
4. Click in the Function to Restrict box to open a list of options for what to block
5. Click Select next to the function to prevent
6. Click Submit
7. A server restart is required for this to go into effect. Restarts occur automatically every night.

Permissions

For holds to be effective, users must have access to place them and permissions should be adjusted so users not authorized to place or remove holds cannot.

Financial Aid Auto-Packaging Hold

Financial Aid Auto-packaging block can take place based on Academic and Financial holds. 

Inserting a comma separated list of Hold Codes into Custom Control FA_PKGHOLD 1-1 for Financial holds and/or 1-2 for Academic Holds, if a student has any listed hold type on their account auto-packaging will be blocked.
